The Creative Force and the Pathology of the Social Bond

The Blank Wall Gallery presents the collective exhibition organised by the Demou Ergia Koinsep, entitled: “TWONESS” THE CREATIVE FORCE AND THE PATHOLOGY OF THE SOCIAL BOND”.

In this visual-photographic exhibition and the proposed action, which has a research character, we focus on highlighting the creative and interdependent force and the pathology of the human bond, as it is established and unfolds in the various fields of contemporary social reality in everyday life, both temporally and as a representation.

More specifically, the action deals with the intimate bond of motherhood, fatherhood, love, siblinghood, friendship of all forms, and how the bond unfolds through the fluid identities of the contemporary social era, as well as in the timelessness of its transformations across generations and genders.

The bond is with us from the moment we are born, from the moment we love, and matures and solidifies within us from the moment we feel able to judge and choose. It accompanies us on our nomadic journey. Our photographs, our songs. It shapes our routines and our lives: even when we think we have overcome it or solved it, even when we ignore it, reject it or deny it. We cannot control this bond with reason and desire, but it is something that we fully own.

But it is not identical with us, it is not just our relationship and our relations. It is like a child that is conceived by us, born and dies as a dual existential force independent of our own will, something that gives it substance and breath and keeps it timelessly alive. It is a separate entity with autonomy, which the sociologist Sotiris Chtouris has conceptualised in the sequence of thought of Buber, Heidegger, Bourdieu and called «Twoness» (2010).
