Maria Stamati has created a series of works to describe the complexity of human relationships, as well as the interactions and interdependecies between people in their everyday life. She illustrates the individual havens, the numerous emotional flunctuations and the potential emotional impasses of every person, along with the allure and osmosis, which exists in every human relationship.

The artist herself notes: «I record the human relationships, people’s innermost qualities, the repercussions of events, the thoughts and ideas, allowing thus for an understanding of the synergy, and for objection, acceptance and comprehensive processing.»

Stamati enhances her distinct, coarse brushstroke with the addition of scattered, erratic stitches made with thick yarn, in order to heighten the dramatic effect of her compostitions. All of the works in this series, though non-representational, clearly express her individual style with the strong movement and expressionistic quality. Her powerful visual style combined with her unique formations carries the viewer to a journey in man’s intangible, spiritual world and inside the complex relationships between different people.

18/11/2021 PRESS RELEASE – Excerpt

The 18th Thessaloniki Book Fair, 25 – 28 of November 2021, in Thessaloniki, also hosts art exhibitions

The 18th Thessaloniki Book Fair will take place from 25 to 28 of November 2021, and will be accompanied in a unique way by hosting Greek artists and innovative art projects – hosted by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture.

Initially, the solo exhibitions of two Greek visual artists will be hosted: Maria Stamati and Kostas Vittis.

With her collection of works “Change in Completeness”, Maria Stamati records the relationships of people, the interiority, the imprint of events, thoughts and concepts, giving the opportunity for awareness of interaction, protest, acceptance and extensive processing.

With his series of works “Light. Schisms in Matter”, Kostas Vittis visualizes the penetration of light from matter into spiritual, immaterial space and conveys these visual transformations to us. The artist has also created the artist book of the same name.

The art historian and curator, Louisa Karapidaki, is curating both solo exhibitions.

German-speaking literature will be honoured at the 18th Thessaloniki Book Fair.

With invited authors from German-speaking countries, as well as book professionals, the programme “Let’s Talk!” is a co-organized by the Goethe-Institut Greece, litrix.de and the Frankfurt Book Fair, with the support and funding of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Aim of the programme is the dialogue, networking and exchange of ideas.

The 18th Thessaloniki Book Fair is organized by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in cooperation with TIF-HELEXPO, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Greek Publishers’ Associations and independent publishers, under the auspices of the President of the Greek Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The 18th TIBT is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, under the framework of the Regional Operational Programme of Central Macedonia 2014-2020.
