Biography

The visual artist Maria Stamati

 

Maria Stamati is a visual artist and poet. She was born in Amfilochia and she lives in Athens.

She studied privately next to Ryne Bergström (professor at the Gothenburg School of Fine Arts). She also apprenticed at Michalis Veloudios’ art studio and, for a short time, at Costas Niarchos’ atelier.

Her works are to be found in collections in Greece and abroad. She has created covers for many books. Her essays and texts on art have been published in various cultural and literary magazines.

Six poetry collections of hers have been published.

Her works are included in art publications outside of Greece and her poems in many contemporary anthologies.

She has received 6 awards for her work.

She is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece, the National Society of Greek Authors and the Union of Etoloakarnanian Authors.
